The Problem
Over the years, American obesity rates have been steadily growing. According to the American Heart Association, almost seventy percent of America’s population, youth included, is considered overweight or obese. Now, obesity-related disease is becoming more prevalent, thus increasing preventable death and significantly decreasing major portions of the population’s life spans. Like obesity, this shorter life span does not only impact adults. The average life expectancy for youth is also decreasing. At this point the life expectancy trend for millennials and the generations after them is that their lives will be shorter than that of their parents. This grave trend is expected to continue if action is not taken. |
